Summer Camp 2007
The Fine Art Center's Summer Camp is held the last two full weeks of June every year. Students 6-18 are grouped by age and groups are kept under 6 (usually 3-5 in a group). Different age levels of the same objective are set. Drawing is a daily objective. Other mediums such as watercolors, oils, acrylics, collage, pottery--handbuilt and on the wheel--are given 3-4 days to allow practice strokes with the medium as needed before a final work is started. Instruction is geared to 50-55 minute sessions with a bathroom break and a provided snack break. Younger children must have good attention spans, but stand up and stretch breaks are provided as needed. This camp is very structured and the students are tired but thrilled at the end. On the last day everyone (including parent volunteers) concentrates on preparing works for exhibit. Their works show for two days at The Fine Arts Center of Hot Springs with a reception on Saturday at 2 pm.
Director for this summer's Art Camp was Nina Louton; degree, exhibitor, and member of Arkansas Arts Council's Artists Roster and Arts in Education Roster. Educated instructors were Angela Stickels and Johnce Parrish, exhibitors. Parrish also is on the Arkansas Arts Council's Arts in Education Roster. All plan to return as instructors in the January Wonderful Wednesdays and next summer's Art Camp.
