Artist Statement

Save for high school art and sculpture classes, I'm a self-taught artist.I've painted as a hobby for 30 plus years, and only in late 2008 have decided to devote full time to it. I've shown in many arts & crafts shows in Oklahoma and Arkansas over the years.

As anyone can see from my paintings, my inspiration comes from nature. I grew up in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, but with relatives in Arkansas, we visited often. I fell in love with the mountains, river, lakes and the abundance of wildlife. I eventually relocated to the Dardanelle area.

I work in oils. I love the way oils blend, it makes painting feathers and fur a delight. My favorite surface to paint on is masonite , because of the smooth surface, it's great for depicting detail. Deer, ducks and horses are some of my more frequently used subjects. I also love large oak trees, their grace and beauty always move me and I continue to strive to do them justice in my paintings. I'm still learning how to paint and loving every minute!
